“My name is Matt Fox and have been embedded in the arts for many years having taken art courses throughout high school and art history courses at the university level. I began working with glass several years ago and have not stopped. I began teaching myself how to cut and assemble stained glass from YouTube videos and using what supplies I could find at the local craft supply store. When not in the glass studio, I work as a registered nurse, and I am a faculty member and nursing program director at Ohio University Eastern.
I enjoy learning and creating new pieces when in the glass studio. I continue to work with small pieces and do take commission requests. I also pride myself on keeping my artwork affordable so everyone can enjoy my colorful glass creations. Please stop by Matt’s Art Glass at 8 Main St. Zanesville, OH 5pm-8pm on the First Friday of each month.”
“Umteen” years ago, I put away my oils and started painting in watercolor. I took various workshops to increase my skills and love of the medium. Like some people, life’s circumstances got in the way, and my art was put on hold. That is—until about 6 years ago when a friend and I were taking a walk and saw artists painting in watercolor. We sat down just to watch but found paints and watercolor paper right in front of us. I was nervous. Told the instructor that I had not painted in years. That did not deter him as he said, “it’s just like riding a bike—just get back up and start!” And that is what I have done, and I have not stopped painting since.
My primarily medium is watercolor but dabble in other mediums. I am particularly fond of capturing the beauty of McCoy pottery in still life, as well as painting flowers from my garden, and rustic barns that liven up the countryside. I recently challenged myself and began sketching and painting various historical buildings in the Zanesville/Putnam Historical area. The character of these historical buildings makes a rich patina for a watercolor palette. I often find myself asking who lived there, what did they do for a living---I try to put myself back in time and put the watercolors to work moving and flowing to capture the image and feel of those magnificent historical buildings.
